In 1776, McConnell's opened their Belfast Distillery where they crafted the first recorded Northern Irish Whisky brand. It sold all around the World until, in 1920, Prohibition was introduced in the USA, cutting off demand in the largest Irish Whisky market. The significant decline in demand for Irish Whiskey led to the closure of the Distillery in 1930.
